A Whole Lot of Poppycock...
Well, I mean, it's my life, so perhaps it's not complete poppycock. Saturday was Ben's 32nd birthday. We wanted to give him a super duper special day, so we left him alone for the most part. After a breakfast of donuts (topped with a candle and sparkler) and a hearty round of Happy Birthday to You, he went off for a day of golf and I took the kids to the:
This is part of the Freedom Festival and one week before the 4th of July the kids in the area get to do a fun little parade down Center Street in Provo. We started out at the beginning of the parade right behind the leading band. By the time we got to the last block, the finale band was literally running us over (and I mean literally. If I were any less of a mom I'd have a picture to post of Cash on the ground- having fallen off his scooter- and band members tripping over him while playing "America the Beautiful". Instead I ran back and snagged him out of the way right as the tuba player was about to tread on my boy's noggin.) Afterwards we were exhausted (and some of us were a little miffed that the popsicles they hand out at the end were all gone.)
So we retraced our steps back to the car and headed to the: Farmers Market!
We hung out there, ate lunch, relaxed in the shade and were refreshed. Ben in the meantime was having lunch with his brothers, eating (so I'm told) a slice of both the Concrete Pie and Asphalt Pie at Winger's. But it was his birthday, remember, so that's totally allowed.
Sunday was another beautiful day. Beautiful. And so we decided to get out of doors and enjoy this earth the Lord has given us. We went hiking up to Bridal Veil Falls and let the kids play in the water.
We missed the Bear that was giving folks a scare, but Ben really did save a woman's life. She almost fell into Provo River off a 10 foot cliff. Backwards. Head first.
Then we packed up and took our hero home where later on we hosted a BBQ for Ben's family. Can I just say that I don't think it gets much better than home made grilled hamburgers. That is unless those hamburgers are followed by home made Yogurt Cake with Strawberries and home made Ice Cream. Yum. {Can you tell that someone forgot the camera for this part of the festivities? Oops.}
Anyways, to recap: Ben had a great birthday, the kids and I had a fun weekend, and oh yeah:

Me and my bigger half
kelly tagged me for this a while back, and since i've been sans internet, i hadn't gotten around to it... so here it is:
where did you meet your husband?
i met ben through mutual friends. my friend kim and i were driving from california up to utah after christmas break and we were swearing off any serious relationships for the upcoming semester. the day after we arrived in utah, kim’s friend dan took us over to meet his friend ben. i walked in the front door and there was ben eating a pudding snack at the kitchen table. love at first sight. and ben looked good, too.
what was the first thing you said to your husband?
we said hello and introduced ourselves, and i think we even shook hands…
where was the first kiss? First date?
i was pretty head over heels for ben from the get go. we hung out a few times with our previously mentioned mutual friends, and after a few days ben asked me out. we went to a movie (a pre-release showing of The Count of Monte Cristo) and to dinner at Macaroni Grill. our first kiss happened about 3 weeks later when ben walked me to my car after a date. we’ve been kissing ever since.
did you have a long or short courtship/engagement?ben and i met on january 3rd of 2002, were engaged june 30th of 2002, and married october 12th 2002.
where did you get engaged?
my friend kim got engaged the same semester i met ben, and ben came down to california for her wedding in june of 2002. we had previously hinted at the fact that we were in love enough to get married, but i thought an engagement was still months away. on sunday afternoon ben took me for a drive up mt. baldy and we rode the ski lift to the top of the mountain. we were up there hugging and smooching and ben started telling me all the reasons he loved me. i was still clueless to the fact that he was proposing, when all of a sudden he pulled a ring out of his pocket and said, “…in fact, i love you so much i was wondering if you’d be my wife…” i was speechless- and VERY happy.
where did you get married?
we got married in the salt lake temple
How did the reception go?
we had a reception following the wedding in heber city where ben grew up. All of ben’s friends and family were there, along with some of my friends that lived in utah. a week later after our honeymoon, we had a reception at my parents home in claremont, california. i had always wanted to get married in the fall, because i loved fall wedding receptions. we decorated with fall leaf garlands and pumpkins and served pumpkin spice cake and spiced cider.
How was the honeymoon?
we spent our first night as husband and wife at the johnson mill in midway, utah and then jetted off to lincoln city, oregon to my family’s beach house. every one should visit the Oregon coast in the fall. PERFECT weather. we spent several days there and then drove down the coast to california. we had a pretty good time (wink wink, nudge nudge).

Thirty
Ben had his birthday a week ago and turned the big 3-0. I meant to post sooner, but better late than never, right? So here's a list of 30 things I adore about my husband:
(Wasn't he a cute baby?)
1. He makes me laugh every day
2. He can cook spaghetti
3. He is self-motivated
4. He shaved his head into a mohawk to "match" our son
5. He drives an awesome car
6. He likes to try new foods
7. He rubs my feet when we watch movies or TV
8. He plays the guitar (and wrote me a song once)
9. He helps me keep the house clean and doesn't seem to mind doing dishes
10. He changes poopy diapers
11. He puts up with my mood swings
12. He pretends to enjoy chick flicks
13. He tells me my crafts are "so cute"
14. He's in a band with his little brother
15. He can do an awesome Irish accent
16. He can tap dance (took classes)
17. He is an entrepreneur and isn't afraid to take financial risks (even when I'm terrified to)
18. He tells me he loves me all the time
19. He is the rock in our marraige
20. He likes those nasty orange circus peanut candies (who knew ANYONE liked those?)
21. He loves our kids
22. He is adventurous
23. He enjoys being outdoors
24. He's a teacher
25. He mows the lawn
26. He is almost OCD when it comes to being clean
27. He dreams of being able to grow an afro like the Jackson 5
28. He wears zip up ties
29. He doesn't snore (much)
